i love soup and sandwich for lunch i have used a couple receipess from this and they turded out great
Great soup ideas. Wish there was a little more variety. Some hints on variations to your already soup recipes. Ok glad it was free
Only three or four soups that appealed to me and my family. Easy preparation was appealing. Had been looking for a goo asparagus soup recipe.

Considering the fact that this cookbook was first published in 1894 and cook stoves and cooking practices have changed since then, I was amazed at the wonderful treasure of recipes that I discovered in this cookbook
+ Each recipe is very quick and easy to prepare. The recipes do not give the prep time nor the cooking time. In those days, a cook literally stood over a hot stove!
+ Many of the recipes in this book are still usable today. Note that they made use of a brick and mortar back then, however, today the gourmet cooking stores sell them and they are still used for crushing herbs, mixing dry ingredients together, so this is a good thing.
+ My favorite soups from this book are
* Cream of Lettuce Soup - What a wonderful and tasty way to use up that (beginning to brown) lettuce! The taste is light and refreshing. Wonderful for a luncheon with cucumber sandwiches.
+ Tomato Soup - This is an ideal soup to make in summer when tomatoes are plentiful! This makes a healthy soup for lunch or dinner, add a sandwich and what a superb meal!
This is a wonderful and different cookbook. One that I like to use from time to time.
